In the Toolbox-VirusTotal

Sometimes in this job Fast and Free are my two favorite words, especially when it comes to security. That statement may seem like a contradiction, but if I can use a free tool that I can then pass on to staff members and teachers so they can also use it, that equals a win-win situation.

VirusTotal is one of those types of things. This description is directly from their site: "VirusTotal is a free service that analyzes suspicious files and URLs and facilitates the quick detection of viruses, worms, trojans, and all kinds of malware."

Like I said-at one time or another for various reasons I've needed a "second opinion" on a file, beyond that of our Antivirus Solution concerning suspicious files--and even websites. VirusTotal makes it easy not only for me to check, but to share with others so they can continue checking their stuff on their own.
